I am truely stoked that you checked in Rek. There is a huge debate on the 520 being to big for the nasty singletrack and your posts just confirm other arguements of the 520's light and agile handling. A fully capable singletrack machine. Others seem to think a 520 is just a big overweight pig.

You can read some of these threads. I've given up trying to talk sense to some of these trolls.

My 09 Beta 525 RS works awesome for tight single track. If anything I had to stiffen the suspension . I went up on the rear spring 5.8? I forget now. I am 6'1" and at around 230lb. When I do revalve and service my shock and forks I'll probably go racetech or pick up a set of shocks and forks made up for mx that is available locally. The suspension has been so plush and great just stock that I've not had the inclination to even change the settings much at all. I've ridden a buddies 2010 520rr locally and I like that bike very much. It feels very balanced and turns quicker. I've ridden his and my bike back to back and tried to adjust my forks a bit to match the feel a little. I played with how far up and down my forks were in the triple clamps and it does feel more similar. I only got to ride my friends bike for a short time so I didn't have much time to keep adjusting. He is super happy with his Beta and his riding has improved tremendously with it. Anyway both our bikes work awesome in tight trail. The bikes are awesome. Of course the newer Beta is better but not tremendously so. I do feel I will be moving up to the new Beta sometime but still love my 09. My other trail bike is a highly modded for trail cr 250 and my buddy with the 520's other bike is a ktm 200. I don't feel a significant difference between riding my beta or my cr except for if I have to do some carrying... The Honda is lighter in that case so then it has some benefit. The Beta works awesome in the trails and is so easy to ride fast and with less effort. It also has the button which has it's benefits of course. My buddy feels he rides way better on his 520 and sometimes thinks of selling his 200. I can see he just makes it up trails that he just had a harder time with before. Bottom line is I feel that I think that people saying the 520 or 525 or 500 Beta are full of it when they talk like these big bikes don't work well in the trail. They work excellent. I go just as fast on my Beta than anything else I've ever ridden and I've ridden a pile of different bikes including a bunch of 2 strokes.... which I still like. Here's some trail riding from this past year in our regular trail area close to our house . It isn't especially fast or slow but I think you can see I'm not struggling but definitely going at a smooth clip and definitely enjoying the ride.

...and of course the bike is just so smooth and quiet!!! Here's what my bike looks like now. I added some black plastic as I've scraped up my white plastic pretty bad and just wanted to change the looks a little. I've added a few mods just because I can't leave stuff alone. I like the rack as it's easier to move the bike around when repositioning in tight trail etc.

..just put on a simple new mod today... a new terrapactor soft terrain Motoz tire. It's been raining solid for a few days and the streams should be running and the mud slick and glassy...
http://www.motoz.com.au/shop_prods.asp?CatID=172 I'll give a report of how it works on the Beta. It works pretty good on my cr for around here and lasts long.
