    Pulling the catalytic converter ?

    Hi all,

While trying to resolve some issues with my beloved 2009 RR 450 recently, I removed the catalytic converter. The "side effects" are noticeably more snap, and slightly more growl.

Is this recommended ? Pros, cons ?

    Thanks.

I'm surprised that your bikes are equipped with catalytic converters up there. The US Betas do not have catalytic converters but do have spark arresters.

A lot of the bikes came to the US with the cc. We had to grind the welds off and remove them per setup instructions. We did test ride some to see what they ran like. VERY quiet and yes it did choke it down some. Our units were jetted for no cc, I don't know if yours will be jetted leaner. If you remove it I'd do the JD jetting and leak jet float bowl.

Interesting re some bikes having the CC, others not. So long as there's no negative effects re pulling it, I'll enjoy the aforementioned positives ! She sure was quiet before removing this...

Just to be sure , the CC is an approx 8" long metal cylinder, with a honeycomb like interior ?

No, don't gut your can. The cc is a piece welded to the end of the silencer over the opening.

? Are we talking about the same thing ?
This came out of the exhaust pipe (before the silencer), part # 020370080 000, referred to as "Catalyst" in the spare parts manual.

You must have a different parts manual that the US or Euro version???? A "020" part number is (or should be) 2010 and newer.

That is a parts diagram for a 2010 or newer bike. Not your 2009. I've never seen a diagram with that item on the 2005-2009 bike, but if yours has one I'd remove it. (for closed course competition use only, at least here in the US we can't mess with emissions)
