2011 Beta 520RS, Concord, California, USA

    Hi folks!

In July, my 2nd Italian Mistress moved into the garage!

Just like her older cousin in the back, she really knows how to dance!

I'm 57, retired electrical engineer, and became an MSF RiderCoach earlier this year. Its fun teaching folks how to ride. I've ridden since 1968. Street, dirt, dual-sport, track days, etc.

Currently have a 1975 Honda TL250(364cc) trials bike, a 2002 Aprilia Caponord with 107k miles, and the new Beta. The Beta replaced my 2003 Yamaha WR450F. It was ready for a second re-build, so it was time for a new one.

My favorite dirt-riding area is the Mendocino National Forest trail system west of Stonyford, CA. Some of the sweetest singletrack in the state!

If you are in Northern California and want to go for a ride, let me know!

    Thanks!

Yes, in the Beta RS/RR 4T thread of the thumpers forum at AdvRider. A number of my friends hang out at advrider, and we announce our group rides in the west regional forum.

Yeah, I hang out in northeastern and flugistan or whatever it's called. We do the same thing. Camp and rides and weekend rides.

    Hello Catfish,

It would be fun some time to come up there, stay a weekend in your area, and try some different trails along the coast. There is a group of friends with Betas in the Norcal Sacramento/Folsom/El Dorado Hills area. I'm an ex WR rider myself.

About ten years ago, my wife and I were up at a place called Shelter Cove along the coast near a very small airport... We were awoke (sleeping in our tent at 7:30am) to a large group of dual sport dirt riders with backpacks on all leaving a hotel, heading into the coastal moutain range. They had a giant Uhaul/Ryder truck just crammed with bikes, all staying in a coastal area hotel. In the morning, after they cleared the camp area, we could hear the pack of 23 or so bikes zig-zagging back and forth climbing up the mountains for a while. They came back later that day at 6:30pm. Long day! I have always wanted to find a place like that to ride on the coastal range, but not familiar with those areas. If you have a place worth coming up and checking out, there are four of us who would be interested in meeting up with the Betas. Ever ridden up at this place in Shelter Cove by chance?

I'm in Concord, in the eastbay. Are you in the Sac area also, or just your Beta friends? I assume you guys have ridden Stonyford & Middle Creek, right?

What a change in handling & steering from the WR, huh?!?

I know of several groups who put on "Lost Coast" rides in the area, including myself. Dual-sport & street rides up there for more than 20 years. The only legal routes are dirt & gravel roads; like Usal, Kings Ridge, etc... No official OHV areas.

I'm sure there is singletrack up there that the locals know about, but I suspect its on private property, or well hidden.

Yes, we should plan a Northern California Beta Ride somewhere, once we get a little more moisture in the ground.

Welcome. I'm trying to move out to NorCal someday. Maybe within the year if things go well. I can't wait!

    OSD,
Its definitely different living out here. As I think we've chatted about before, I grew up riding back there spending summers of most of my youth in Southern MD, Northern MD, etc. If I was not into motorsports and scenic driving and riding as much as I am, I might have returned to MD but just can't seem to learn enough and see enough fast enough here and I've been here since 1973, departing MD at the age of 6. Living in CA is like being in 3 states with NorCal, Central Valley, SoCal all offering different areas and terrains. Riding in NorCal is fun, and there are places all over the state to explore both OHV and non-OHV with the dual sports. Good Luck on hitting your target to get here.
