Fuel mileage / Range on a tank of gas?

What are people getting for fuel mileage on these bikes?

I just went on a ride last Sunday and here's what I got.
    2010 450RR
    Premium gas
Mostly dirt roads, with some technical washed out sections, and ATV trails.
Some bursts of rapid acceleration but overall I wasn't riding to high in the RPM range most of the day.
    38.1 miles / 1.47 gallons = 25.9 MPG
    25.9 MPG * 2.1 gallons per tank = 54.4 miles per tank

    What are other people getting?

(Yes, I realize that results will vary based on a variety of factors. I'm just trying to get a ballpark idea as to what kind of range I can typically expect.)

25.9 mpg for that type of riding is extremely low, unless you were 'on the throttle' all the time. Under easy conditions I will oftentimes get 40 - 50 mpg with my bikes. Terrain, throttle control, gearing and jetting all have signicant influence on fuel mileage.

What bike are you getting that kind of mileage on Chas?

I've only had mine out on 2 real rides so far and the first time I didn't really pay attention. I just filled it up and went!

Maybe I was on the throttle more than I realized. In the future, I'll keep track of it and see if it stays fairly consistent or not.

I would like to hear from others to if they're out there.

On either of my current bikes, i.e. '09 Beta 570 RS and '08 KTM HTR 350 XCF-W, or with my previous '04 KTM 540 EXC. On easier dual sport type rides, I have no trouble getting 40 - 50 mpg. When pushing harder in more difficult terrain, the fuel mileage obviously drops way down from here.

The range your getting sounds pretty much right on Jeff . The difference between chas , Dowright and us , ( I have a 2011 400rr) is we have a beta motor and he's got an ktm rfs motor. I had my bike for almost a year now and have ridden pretty much every type of terrain and the range stays around there , of course its going to very some . I moved my needle a notch to lean it out just a bit and that did bump it up some , the bike runs SOOOO GOOD I didn't want to make any drastic changes , but hey maybe a jd jet kit will make a bigger difference.

Best mileage was on a dual sport ride 70% off road, 30% on road. I went 92 miles before hitting reserve. Worst was at the sand dunes, 35 miles and I ran out of fuel. Im on a JD Jetted 05 450RR.

I was very worried about getting around our 70 mile enduro loop on one tank of fuel 2.1 gallons. So I carried a MSR 22 ounce fuel can strapped to my camelback three times so I could get mileage and average it.
    1st time = exactly 50 miles to reserve / 27 untill empty
2nd time = 48 miles to reserve / 30 miles untill empty I was surprised how close this was to first trip.
3rd trip ( we were in very swampy muddy wet terrain) 45 untill reserve / 28 until empty
So now I figure I'm safe for 60 miles then I better start looking for gas w/ a few to spare.
    Bike is running unbelievable.

I just used my new 3.8 gal. tank on a dual sport ride that was all roads.I filled it at the gas station when new (empty) and it took 3.8,as advertised. I did 120 mi. on one tank with maybe a quart or less left.I'm thinking more than 130 and you would be walking.Mine is a 2011 520 rs with 13/50.Jetting is JD blue #3,172,and 45 pilot.FMF silencer. That shakes out to 31.5 mpg on the dirt roads.I nursed it the last 15mi. because it was getting mighty close!!I thiink that's about all I could hope for unless I doe de doe all day,or raise gearing.. Much less on trail, as said. Steve

How does the new tank displace the weight? Doy you feel the extra weight? Does it throw off the low center of gravity?
