Thanks to all that responded. I'll keep an eye on the MPG's in the future and see what happens. It had been a demo bike so I have to believe that had installed the correct jetting way before it got to me. It's running awesome so we'll see I guess.

+1 on Happy Seals question. Betamax... tell us more about that 3.8 gal. tank please. Likes/dislikes?

Mounting-I could not get all the bolts in.I ended up running the two side bots and one in the top/forward mount.Maybe with a little time it will conform better and I'll be able to get them all in.
Ergos- Not a problem. It is just as narrow at the seat as stock, and at least for the length of the seat,it is no higher. In other words it doesn't bend the seat up and wreck getting forward. It actually was easier to put the seat on with this tank than stock.
Handling- I wasn't on anything tight, it was fine on the roads. The bike was a handful in deep soft sand though, but I think I'm just going to raise the idle a bit and add a click of compression and see what that does before I lower my forks. It may not be tank related,in other words. It was my first time with the bike in the desert.Oh, and I've always stunk it up in the sand.
Quality- It's a nice tank and although it looks huge, off the bike,I didn't think it did on the bike.Although Someone did ask me how much it held and when I told them they said"Oh,It looks bigger than that!" Go figure! Steve

Nice write up on the Beta 520RS. http://www.americanbeta.com/sites/de...0RS%20test.pdf

I don't know about this statement though....

Number four: The Beta will crack 100 miles on its 2.1-gallon tank—just barely.

It can get 47.6 mpg? Really? I'd have to see it to believe it.

I believe that's with stock gearing/jetting and easy on the throttle. I personally think 60 miles is a safe range with a stock tank, 120 miles with the desert tank…..

I carried a fuel can for the first set of rides on my stock 520. I wanted to find the fuel range. First two trips was exactly the same at 77 miles. The third was 78 miles. I did not ride consistently either. I was dualsport to trails and then to a track nearby with varied throttle application on all trips. Amazing the fuel consumtion was so close.
